Gil was a special dog. Very
intelligent, dominant, athletic and handsome. Affectionate with us, ready
to greet strangers at shows, and to growl at two or four -legged "intruders"
at home.
The get of Sirpad, one of the top winning dogs of the Shaar Hagai line,
the full brother of two World Winners, and the sire of champions and multiple
BOB winners, Gil got plenty of recognition of his own in conformation (15
BOB and many group placements). But Gil was better known for his
obedience exploits: the first Canaan Dog to earn a UD (both in AKC and
in UKC) and to compete (and place!) in obedience tournaments.
Obedience training was my attempt to stop Gil from running away. It
worked for 7 years, but then after winning his third National Specialty
and placing first in his Utility class within the same week, he decided
there was nothing else he could do for an encore. A gate blew open, Gil
disappeared and was never seen again. I hope he is running free and happy
with other of dogs and is finally the leader of the pack. |
