It took me an entire day to decide which puppy I wanted out of Barak and Delilah's litter. I finally decided on Flynn because his attitude reminded me if Micah, my once-in-a-lifetime Canaan Dog. Flynn was the first puppy out of Cheryl Henning's camper and into the food bowl. After a few bites he bravely went exploring. Then he realized he was still hungry, but by now his littermates were surrounding the bowl. The wheels began turning in his brain. How to get to the food? Cowabunga! With a flying leap he vaulted his sibs, landing in the middle of the bowl. Thus he earned his nickname, 'the Fabulous Flying Flynn'.
A clever, athletic dog - that's what I was looking for!
Flynn has more than lived up to his promise. He has conformation, agility, obedience, and rally titles, and a year of therapy work to his credit. But what we most enjoy are our daily walks and farm chores. Flynn keeps the varmints away, and herds the horses around when they'll let him. He shares the foot of the bed with a plethora of cats. On rare occasions he makes them toe the line with a mild growl, but usually he puts up with their shenanigans by heaving a dramatic sigh and flouncing off the bed, sending a clear message: the King is not amused.
Flynn makes my life a lot brighter. How wonderful to have been granted more than one once-in-a-lifetime dog! |
