Shlomo - Canaan Dog Dock Diving Pioneer
Shlomo, rescued at 3 weeks with the Texas 56ers, was a head turner everywhere he went with his “smokey eye” and Oreo Blizzard coat. He is named after the second king of Israel, King Solomon. Myrna Shiboleth helped name him “Hasameach,” meaning the exuberant or happy one, a most appropriate name for a dog whose joyous attitude made a mark on everyone he met.
He lived a full life catching rabbits in the backyard, retrieving his soft disk toy in the dock diving pool, begging for treats in my office, marching among the 2,000 participants in our local pride parade for the past 3 years, begging for alpaca lung treats at the farmers market, and playing leapdog with his best friend Roscoe, another 56er, in the snow.
Shlomo took part in some conformation events, but didn’t
really like the judges. So instead, his focus was athletics where he was a breed pioneer, being the only Canaan Dog to ever participate in distanced dock diving.
In 2023 he showed little interest in the pool, so we focused on running Fast CAT. Within the first few weeks, he was reaching speeds faster than any other breed participant. His long legs and wide stride enabled speeds of over 28 MPH.
Sadly in October 2023, certain health issues resulted in him crossing the rainbow bridge, where he continues to run and splash exuberantly into the distance. Despite his short life, he made a huge impact on the breed and everyone in his life.
