My first Canaan Dog, Lucy, was from a shelter. I first went to a specialty in Ravenna, Ohio in 2009. It was exciting to see the dogs and learn more about them. I became a club member and continued to go to five more specialties even though I couldn't show Lucy.
In the spring of 2017 I was ready for a puppy and brought Lily home from the specialty in Kalamazoo, MI. At three months she was the youngest puppy I ever had. It sure is a big adjustment when you are used to having a mature dog! I was counting on self-confident, friendly Lucy to help me raise Lily. Fourteen-year-old Lucy was diagnosed with an adrenal gland tumor in September. Chemotherapy didn't work and we had to say goodbye in late October.
I haven't shown Lily yet because she is very shy and skittish but with use of a pheromone diffuser, car rides and walks is slowly becoming braver. I still plan on competing with her. We hope to see you next year.
