In my experience, male dogs are WYSIWYG (“what you see is what you get” in techie lingo), and Rion was no exception – we always knew what was on his mind. When the glint in his eye appeared, it was silliness on the menu, a silliness that brought us great joy every day.
His obedience and rally performances were not pretty; there was always something to distract him or lead him to design his own exercises. He enjoyed herding lessons as a youngster but preferred sheep poop to sheep as a nine-year-old.
At home, he romped in a large exercise corral free of dandelions (he ate all the puffballs before the seeds could scatter), and few moles because he dug them up.
Rion’s offspring included an AKC BIS winner and dogs with companion titles, but his greatest claim to fame was his wonderful character. We lost him in December 2019 and miss his happy, silly self every day.
