Once upon a time, there was a little cream and red Canaan puppy that found herself all grown up with a family that could no longer keep her. She began her journey back to her breeder and the loving search for a forever home began again. Enter Chris, Cindy and Strider Oxley.
After the disappointment of not finding an adult Canaan to rehome, Chris and Cindy discovered a litter of puppies available in Missouri. Deposit in the mail, they were happily exploring names for their puppy; but as irony often characterizes an
individual’s life, Annette Israel called them the day they sent the puppy deposit. They chatted and explained; Annette
understood; and they moved forward with the excitement of a puppy.
Several weeks later, Chris and Cindy were on the road to meet Cheryl Hennings to pick up Strider and their world tilted. Cheryl knew about Halah needing a home; and before we left with Strider, she said, “I think you need to take Halah, too.” Nine months later, Halah arrived. Strider fell in love with her immediately. Halah? Well, her face said, “A puppy? I’m going to be living with a puppy?!” It wasn’t long before Strider took his place in the pack… at her insistence.
Halah and Strider grew close and she bonded with Chris. Cindy catches her looking dreamily at him in quiet moments. She is their chatty Canaan, scolding them if they have been away too long, needs their attention, or thinks they missed her feeding time by HOURS. She is often in the lead when the pack chases squirrels. Correcting the boys and being on guard duty shows her serious side. She helps guard the chickens and geese (once in a while, she chases the geese for sport… bad girl). She will find the most odiferous pile of goose poop in which to roll, and she is the first one in the truck to go for a ride.
Once upon a time…. and Halah lived happily after with Chris, Cindy, Strider and Beej (who joined the pack later).
